Our Great Blue Heron is a real lesson in mixing thread colors! I eliminated some of the detail in the original painting so it will stitch well. I stitched mine on a heavy light grayish blue cotton. Some of the stitching is sheer and you can control how bright you want your background by choosing different fabric colors. For example, a bright yellow would add a lot of color to the setting sun!
The inidividual Heron could be made into a picture or put him on the back of a denim jacket.

There are two complete flamingo designs with their own flowers and foliage. They are designed to make the fronts on a vest or neckline as our other two Folk Art Clothing sets: BFC1669 Dragon Dreams and BFC1671 The Hummingbird in the Garden. But you also receive a design you can use with the two *side* designs to create a complete design the back of a jacket or vest and or pillow! And of course you can use your designs to create your own arrangements. For those of you that aren’t into Flamingos, a heron design is included you can use instead!
The Flamingos and their flower garden are created with a stitch similar to a folk style hand embroidery. Each design for the side panels has alignment lines and included you will find full instructions to easily put your designs together. Because of the nature of the designs, there is a lot of leeway in lining these up. I’ve also included both left and right versions of the designs to make it easier to embroider them on a vest or similar item. And finally there is a commercial size for both Flamingos: 6.2” x 11.5” and 6” x 10.7””The commercial designs are supplied in both left and right versions. There are some smaller extra designs you can use for pockets, filling in a neckline, etc.
SIZES of Assembled Designs (one side panel): Please Note I refer to the first flamingo stitched on black fabric as *Hot Pink* and the other one as *Coral*
Coral Hot Pink
MEDIUM 6.2” x 11.5” 6” x 10.7”
LARGE 7.4”x 13.5” 7”x 12.7”

These egrets would be beautiful framed and hung as a group. The backgrounds stitch first, so you can eliminate them easily and just stitch the birds. Three Herons and Three Cranes go nicely with these designs.

These designs illustrate some of the birds and wildlife found along the shore. Use them for pictures as shown or use them for quilts, linens or clothing. Combine them with Color Sketches By the Shore - Part 1 for larger projects. For fun I experimented using some of our variegated threads for some of the foliage and the wildlife. These are the BFC Thread colors I used:
V1-2044 Shades of Leaf Green – great for any vegetation
V1-2074 Emerald – Yellow Looks like a light mottled lime green
V1-2040 Light brown – gold This worked really well for some of the birds, I also used it for sand and for the *pampas* type grass
V1-2052 Multi colored I used this for the Dragonflies12 Designs each in 3 Sizes MLJ Check Sizes

Our majestic Crane joins our other large birds. You will receive full instructions and templates to easily create the background and finish the wall hanging. Or make your own design! I think he would also make quite a statement stitched on the back of a black jacket. Or if you have a narrow spot, stitch him onto a wall hanging! In addition to the individual designs shown below you will receive the Crane split and sequenced into two designs for large hoops.
The Crane by himself is 18.2 inches high by 6.6 inches wide. The picture without the sashing is 20 inches high by 16 inches wide.2 designs for commercial hoop sizes

I have had many requests for a large pelican, but just didn't find the time. The plight of these wonderful birds in the Gulf has given me the inspiration. Though both parents care for the young, I have chosen a female. Their eggs will rejuvenate the species.
The Pelican is 8.2" by 17.6" (just the embroidery). You will receive 5 designs that fit a 5x7 or above hoop. You will also receive the Pelican split and sequenced in two parts for larger hoops. One part is 7.74 x 11.14 (the body) and the other is 8.87x5.04 (head).
Both versions stitch the same size Pelican. The two large designs are in DST format.

These are great to put on clothing, handbags and totes. To add a little extra life, add a tiny crystal to the eyes and watch them follow you. Some other uses are pillows or small framed pictures. For a larger project, they can be paired with our large Blue Heron or Egret for a quilt. They are also appropriate for a man's shirt or jacket!

This Snowy Egret measures 17 by 11 inches! And - he is NOT a window set! You will stitch him as one embroidery on one piece of fabric. I have worked out a new way to align designs that worked even for me (who has to be the worst at lining up designs). You will get full instructions with pictures on how to stitch your designs together. They are digitized so they mesh together and you won't even see where you joined them. Please read all instructions before beginning and don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions. I added some leaves cut from fabric to embellish my picture below. The two foliage designs can be used any way you like. I used them to form an extension of the nest.
NEW!! You will also receive this same design in two sections for commercial machines. (DST format)

I have always loved these cranes, but wasn't sure where they were from until I started looking last week. I found they are indigenous to Southern Africa and especially South Africa, mainly in the wetlands area. (hence the wetlands design to use as a background for your cranes) So I read a little more and discovered all the gorgeous flowers that grow in South Africa. So many to choose from! One site alone listed over 2000 species. I chose the King Protea because it is the National Flower of South Africa and the Disa Uniflora because we all love orchids, and of course many of us are familiar here with the *African Daisy* (Barberton Daisy). You will also receive a split version of the tall crane so you can make him large as I did on the vest.
These designs are appropriate for clothing. You will receive instructions on how I made the pockets on the vest below and also templates to create the arrangement on the back. They can also be used for pictures, pillows or the centerpiece of a quilt.
PLEASE NOTE: For those with large hoops be sure to read the *check sizes* below to see the Commercial sizes.12 Designs each in 2 sizes ML Check Sizes

To me Puffins look like little clowns dressed up in Tuxedos. I was really surprised to find they are only 10 inches tall! There are 12 to 15 million Atlantic Puffins and 60% of them breed in Iceland. They are found only in the North Atlantic Ocean - from the US to Russia. Puffins form long term pair bonds. The female lays a single egg and both parents incubate and feed the chick. A distinctive feature of Puffins is their ability to hold over a dozen small fish in their bills at one time! Considering their small size, this is quite a feat :)
I created the wall hanging below using my sample stitch outs. As I didn't have time to embroider all of them I experimented with Steam a Seam 2. I fused this to the back of some of the designs and cut them out and then fused them to my background. It worked really well! For some of them, I just cut out around part of the design so I could overlap it a little. A very easy way to create a picture for those of you that are leery of lining up designs on a large project.12 Designs each in 3 Sizes SML Check Sizes

Penguins seem to hold a fascination for many people. We see them in ornaments, stuffed animals, on clothing - even in movies. I think some of it comes from their happy look and comic antics even in what is often the worst of climates. Penguins are not found in the Northern hemisphere other than in zoos. I have done this design set from photographs (other than the two line drawings) and have identified them as best I can from many internet sites. I learned a lot about penguins and was surprised at their variety! (I found 17 species all very different looking) The little guy called a Jackass Penguin got his name because his cry sounds like the braying of a donkey. I also didn't realize penguins come as small as 16". The Kings and Emperors standing at between 3 and 4 feet tall must be an impressive sight in person! Emperor penguins are the only bird that never sets foot on dry land and the male incubates the eggs on his feet during the Antarctic winter. Nature is fascinating!

Coordinating with the Lace Bowl & Doily, Swans & Water Lilies, these designs can be used in most any project. The swans are all done in white using different stitches and angles to create their feathers rather than lots of shading so they stitch up quickly. As shown below, they add an elegant touch to a purchased blouse or a pieced set of potholders. (For the pot holders I used design #7 without stitching the dark blue water) Always feel free to experiment with my designs - sometimes by eliminating a color or two you can get an entirely different look.
Along with your designs you will receive a customized thread conversion chart for 7 brands of thread along with color swatches to help you choose the threads for your project. These designs were stitched in Admelody thread. These designs are my own artwork based on photos sent to me by Terry from Alaska and some purchased photographs.
