  •  Ever since its discovery in 1922 by Howard Carter the world became fascinated with Egypt and the legendary boy king. It sparked a renewed interest in ancient Egypt and his burial mask has become a popular symbol. Here is a Large version of his burial mask that would make a great framed picture. In the commercial stitch-out 3 regular colors were substituted with metallic. They are as follows 2687- ME-042, 2657-ME-05, and 2852-ME-013. Also please note this was stitched on black fabric and the majority of the blacks areas are fabric (not stitched).

  • Osiris is the Egyptian God of the after life. Since the ancient Egyptians thought of the dead as *the living ones*, Osiris has also been called the King of the Living. Because of the hope he bestowed in life after death, he is also associated with the cycles of nature and the flooding of the Nile.

  • What better cat to stitch for a cat lover than an Egyptian cat? Domesticated approximately 10,000 years ago, cats became an integral part of Egyptian life several thousand years later. They were worshiped and revered. They were part of daily life and also religious life. These regal cats would look gorgeous with crystal collars and decorations.

  • Fifteen sophisticated Egyptian designs. Combined with Egyptian fabrics, these would make a nice large quilt. Also try stitching them in gold metallic on black or a dark rich blue.

  • Barbara, one of our customers, sent me some photos her son had taken in Egypt. I thought they were perfect for a Window set. The shadows of the camel riders in the foreground remind us that there is much in Egypt that hasn't changed over the millennia. And under their feet, the ancient painting of Cleopatra on the Nile portrays all the treasures that still lie under the camels feet and the shifting sands.

For a smaller picture, you could stitch just the top 9 squares. For a larger picture, the 3 bottom squares could be repeated across the top. And of course you could make a mini picture of Cleopatra on her boat.

I can see these designs as appropriate for a quilt or coverlet in addition to wall pictures.
The small window is 12x16, the medium is 15x20 and the large is 18x24. You receive full instructions on various ways of putting your window together.

  • Egypt evokes thoughts of mystery and great treasure. I've stitched these designs in gold metallic thread, but they will look good with any bright color or variegated thread. There is a square outline in a separate color stop that stitches first so you can decide whether to use it. I used it for my pillow so I would have a guide to stitch the squares together. In addition to being used with other Egyptian designs for wall hangings or quilts, they are appropriate for clothing, totes, table linens or scarves.

  • This set of designs is taken from a photo sent to me by a customer. She had taken it of an actual papyrus scroll. Among them are the noble woman, serving girls and two dancers. The illustration below shows how they were originally arranged.

  • You can have fun with these! Along with the designs you will receive an instruction sheet that shows you the letters and sounds they represent so you can use them to spell out anything you like. In gold and black below I have spelled out *Suz at BFC*. Children would love having them spell out secret words or phrases,or have their names or the name of a favorite hero or pet on a special item. Use them as the border for a quilt and spell out the family name, the recipient or a favorite phrase. You will receive three sizes of these designs - approximately 1 inch, 1.5 inches and 2.5 inches. In researching to do these designs I came across many transliterations of the Egyptian hieroglyphics. Over the years the experts have refined their definitions. I chose this particular list because it was concise and did not contain too many different glyphs yet has enough sounds so you can create just about any phrase. The designs come individually - I stitched them together in a hoop just to make it easier to display them here.

  • Egypt 1 concentrated on decorative Ancient Egyptian art. This set will concentrate on the Gods and Goddesses of ancient Egypt. The first design is Anubis, with the head of a jackal, he guided the dead through the underworld. He is said to be older than Osiris. The second design is Nekhbet, in the form of a vulture, the protector of mothers and children. She has been depicted as a Lady with a vulture headdress to a full vulture as here. Lady Isis is the third design. She is the ultimate symbol of fertility and motherhood. The second row of designs are Horus, a Winged Isis and Osiris. In the last row you first find the goddess Bast in her most cat like form, then the goddess Mut and the god Thoth.

  • There are 9 designs in this set, a combination of figures and decorative items. I have stitched them all in the same color scheme to show how they will fit together on a project. But since the Egyptians used lots of bright colors, don't hesitate to change the colors to match your room or planned project. There will be at least one more Egyptian set and possibly more depending on the response. I have placed an example of how you might arrange these designs. In medium size this arrangements would be 28" x 16". using the large size designs, the arrangement would 33" x 19". It would make a great wall hanging, the back of a jacket or even around the bottom of a long skirt.

  • Our Pharaoh (King Tutankhamen) would make a great companion piece to the set *Egypt by Night*. I have stitched the bowl with metallic threads but I have also tried it in regular thread and it comes out very good. You can also limit the metallic to just one of the colors if you prefer. The bowl comes in three sizes and you have your choice of a 5 or 6 sided bowl.
