Woodcuts are a laborious process where the artisan cuts away parts of a block of wood that he doesn’t want printed. When done, ink would be rolled on the surface and the block pressed to paper. Multiple colors could be done by doing several woodcut blocks – one each for the different colors. We have a much easier way to duplicate these images! Just stitch them as many times as you like. These are perfect for quilts, but can be used for many projects. They are excellent for kitchen items, or for the patio or deck to bring summer cheeriness wherever you display them.

You can stitch them as Quilt in the hoop designs so you can just zig zag them together to complete your project, or stitch them as regular designs for quilts and similar projects. Pierre-Joseph Redouté, a Belgian artist, is well known for his flower paintings, but he also did some beautiful Fruit paintings. He became an official court artist to Marie Antoinette though he left home at age 13 to live as an itinerant artist. I have always loved his use of color and composition. You can use these designs for table cloth and napkin sets, bordering curtains, kitchen towels or aprons, or frame the full designs and make a grouping.

Fred decided to use one of his paintings (you can see it below) as inspiration for an embroidered window. This is stitched on black fabric to minimize stitching time! I think it would be great to brighten up a corner of the kitchen or dining room during the winter months!

I love fancy pillows - both to display them and to make them. But if I keep making them, I then have to find a place to store the ones not on display. Pillow wraps solve this problem! You can make them any size to fit any pillow. They can be wide enough to almost cover the pillow as below, or make them narrower to show some of the underlying pillow. You receive full instructions with templates to make the two pillows below and three different ways to finish the back. As you can see, one of these is a continuous tube that slides over the pillow and the other closes with velcro.
These are also perfect for gifts! Make someone a basic pillow (you get instructions to make a very easy zippered pillow) and a pillow wrap. Then you always have something you can make them for other occasions.
Because all of these designs are individual, you can make any arrangement you want instead of using the templates and you can also use the designs on other fall projects. As shown below, the small designs would make a design 9.6 inches square, the medium 12 inches square and the large 14.4 inches square. Still Life:Representation of inanimate objects, such as flowers or fruit, in painting or photography - taken from the 17th century Dutch,still-leven. (answers.com) I think a better description is *captured in time*. A still life is the combination of the objects and the light at that particular moment. If you place some objects near a window and look at them at various times of day, you will see a totally different scene - the play of light and the shadows created all change the picture. Fred's mastery of light and shading bring these designs to life. For the projects below, I took a large towel and added a padded border - a combination hot pad and towel.

Grapes make great decor items for the kitchen or dining room. This picture can be framed or it would also make a great centerpiece for the table. It can be bordered with designs from the Vintage Wine Quilt Set or combined with Fred's Wine designs: Vintage Wine and Vintage Wine II. A grouping of pictures including several of the wine bottles with these grapes in the middle would make a great focal point!

I snatched up Fred's test stitch outs to make the wall hanging below - I had been looking for something for my newly painted red, black and white kitchen. The medium size cornucopia is approximately 16 inches wide. The small size is about 9.5 inches wide and the large size is 19 inches wide. Below you can see an example for making matching place mats. The Cornucopia speaks to us of Autumn and eventually the Thanksgiving Holiday. I've always loved Fall colors and there will be two or three more sets with this theme. The doily alone could have many uses during this upcoming Fall Season. I will also be announcing special Club credit offers when I introduce the other sets. The small bowl is 5.5 inches in diameter, the medium is 9.2 inches and the large is 11 inches in diameter. Some of these designs can also be used without the background for regular designs - just skip the first color. The ones this would work well for are the doily petal, the panel with the Chickadee, the panel next to the Chickadee with the branch on top and the bowl bottom.

When I saw the first of these designs stitched out all I could think of was an oil painting. I had to stitch it myself on pieced silk for the picture below. Though these designs use a lot of colors, there are few jumps and are easy stitching. In person they look like you can reach in and pick up the fruit. In addition to making great pictures, I can also see them in a shadow box quilt wall hanging as I have illustrated further down this page. For kitchen accessories, they would be very appropriate for small appliance covers; the smaller designs could be used on curtains and towels and a wall arrangement of several pictures.

A lot of you have asked me for a bowl that can be done on fabric. This bowl has two versions - one completely lace and the other that is stitched on a fabric background. For the sample I used white sparkle organza. (The bowl on the right below). You will get directions on how to use both fabric and water soluble stabilizer so you can stitch your bowl without worrying about *fuzzy edges* that need trimming when you're done. You can also stitch on fabric in the traditional manner and then trim the fabric away after stitching. The designs come in both a 4x4 and 5x7 size.
The grape design is done in a rustic style similar to country painting. You also receive 5 designs you can use to make additional items for a compete set: towels, napkins, coasters, etc.
