This guy is ready to attract a mate! Normally their feathers are quite smooth, but during mating season, preening, erecting feathers and twig shaking are common courtship activities. Another notable courtship ritual is Bill-Nibbling, where the male and female birds open and close their bills close to each other and create a smooth rattling sound. I wish I could get a good picture of that!

An Australian Bushtail Possum. A customer wrote enquiring about a design of one so she could put it on her son's shirt.
"My grandson - aged 9, is quite involved with an Australian rescue group looking after native animals that have been injured or rescued from the brushfires from last year. He is only 9 but already studying for his wildlife carer exam and volunteering several times a week with a registered carer. His favourite animal is the brushtail possum and he has asked gramma - me- to make him a possum shirt,"
I couldn't resist! It's wonderful to see someone so young take on such a serious occupation.

Tree frogs really do live in trees! Their padded feet make climbing easy for them. They come in many bright colors! Many of them lay their eggs on a leaf hanging over water. When the eggs hatch, the tadpoles are dropped into the water where they will mature and go on land to find trees.

Crested Chickens are a group of ornamental breeds with extra long and profuse feathers on their heads. Sometimes they need help seeing through the crest and their owners will tie them up. They have been found in images and literature going back to Roman times!!

Our little Yoda is a Tarsier. He's a primate in between the Monkey and the Lemur. He and his friends are only 3.5 to 6 inches long (not counting the very long tail)! Being nocturnal they have these huge eyes. The lettering stitches last so you can include it or not.

These very small Antelope live in the bushlands of eastern and southern Africa. Their name comes from the sound they make when alerting others to a potential danger. I had to check this out and found some audio clips of them making this sound. It sounds exactly like dik dik. These animal are truly small - they range from 5.5 to 11 pounds and stand 11 to 16 inches at the shoulder. Smaller than my cat!
Amazingly I got those eyelashes from a photo,

I'm starting to see Scottish Highland Cattle all over! I first heard of them a few years back when my friend in Denmark, Rise, had a customer in Scotland that wanted a design of their cow, Gry - The Scottish Cow is on my website. I made the wording a separate color stop in case you want to eliminate it.

The Emu is the second largest living bird next only to the Ostrich. They can grow to 6.3 feet tall and sprint a little over 30 miles an hour. The lady emu has quite a life - she lays the eggs and then the male incubates them for 8 weeks and takes care of young once they are hatched! They can weigh between 70 and 80 pounds - just a little more than an Emperor penguin!

The name Lemur comes from the Latin for ghosts and spirits. I can see where it comes from - imagine being out in the dark and seeing those eyes! But unless you live in Madagascar there isn't any chance of that. There are several varieties running from 1.2 ounces to 20 pounds.
