  • There are only 60 Amur Leopards. But in 2007 there were only 30! They live in the Far Eastern Russian forests. They have very thick long coats to live in the cold climate. They are up to 105 pounds and can run at 37 miles per hour. Conservationists are enthusiastic that they can be saved from extinction since there were less than 40 Amur Tigers in the 1940s and they now number between 405 - 500 individuals. Hopefully the Amur Leopard will be as successful. See also Endangered Species - Amur Leopard

  • The Vaquita is one of 6 species of Porpoise.  It is often called the Gulf of California Porpoise.  They are various shades of gray and the smallest known cetacean (cetaceans include whales, dolphins and porpoises).  They live about 20 years and are very shy and timid.  They are hard to spot in the wild. The Vaquita, the world’s most rare marine mammal is on the verge of extinction. More than half the population has been lost in the last three years due to illegal fishing in the Mexico’s part of the Gulf of California. You will also receive the tote bag instructions from the Endangered Species - Sumatran Elephant Set.

  • The Sumatran Elephant, native to the Indonesian Island of Sumatra was declared Critically Endangered in 2011 when its population declined by 80% in 3 generations. There are approximately 2400 to 2800 individuals outside of captivity.  The reasons for their decline are mostly loss of habitat and poaching.  The Sumatran is the smallest of Asian Elephants (from 6.6’ to 10.5’ at the shoulder) and can be either gray or brown. In addition they can be distinguished by the largest head bump of the elephants. Females can reproduce up to 60 years of age, which is the average lifespan.  They have smaller or no tusks where the males have the normal large tusks. I have included the same design for the elephants in both the gray and brown coloring.  I originally designed this with quilt blocks in mind.  They are designed for a 10” square for the medium size, 12” square for the large and 14” square for the Jumbo.  You will find templates in with your ColorCharts for these arrangements.  You can also make your own arrangements or only use some of the background designs as I did for the Tote Bag (instructions for the tote included).
