During the Edo period in Japan (1603-1868), the kokeshi dolls were considered to be guardians of children and the keepers of their souls. They were thought to keep children from harm as they grow up. Because they are believed to watch over children, I thought they would be perfect to decorate children's clothing, bedding, even to make toys of them! These come in 4 sizes from Tiny (a new size) to Large (see check sizes). A total of 48 designs in the complete set.
The cats are interesting. A cat with it's left paw raised is believed to bring luck in business, if it's right paw is raised it watches the home, if both paws are raised you double the good luck!!!

PLEASE NOTE: There are two versions of each geisha. One is with no fill in the faces or flowers. These are appropriate for white, cream and other pale colors. The second version has a white fill in the faces and flowers as shown in the design with the blue background. This version is great for denim oir other darker colored jackets.
Though Geishas are often thought of as demure they can also be portrayed with strength and purpose. The Geisha is an extremely well educated woman skilled in music and other arts and hospitality. They are not the concubines that often come to mind. The Kitsune - Fox Mask - can denote good or evil. In Japanese culture, Fox has contradictory behavior. It can be benevolent (good) or malevolent (evil) depending on the situation. Therefore the Geisha wearing this mask can control her future. The sword also portrays the geisha's control of her environment and portrays loyalty and strength.

Mehndi Designs, from India, are usually done all in shades of Henna. But the designs are so versatile, they are also pretty in beautiful colors! I saw a photo of a wedding dress from Bangladesh covered with Mehndi embroidery in beautiful colors. It inspired me to do this set. And you can stitch these in more traditional Mehndi colors of course.
