  • While creating these designs I could picture a wall hanging or the center of a Celtic Quilt.  But they are very versatile as you can see from the sample layouts I've included.  I stitched them on regular black fabric and stabilizer, trimmed them and stitched them together with a satin stitch.

Finished sizes (done as full cross as illustrated): Medium Designs 12.6”x 22”, Large Designs 14.8” x 23”, Jumbo Designs 18.6” x 32"

For a Qult you could pair them with our Celtic Quiltables

  • One of these circles would be very dramatic on a Celtic purse! Stitch them on a plain color and border with a Celtic print. And of course, they can be combined with other Celtic designs for a gorgeous quilt.

  • Quiltables can be used as quilt blocks, for quilting a large area or as accent designs. The outline stitches as a separate color so you can choose whether or not to use it.
You see many of the celtic knot designs, so I thought it would be fun to do some of the celtic *beasties*. They would be cute stitched on a fleece throw or a quilt for a child. They would enjoy the animals, and there would be an opportunity to teach them about a different culture.

  • This set has a variety of Celtic designs. They are all very traditional, but some are ones you don't see that often. They can be used as accent designs or combined as shown in the sample below in many different combinations. The sample picture below is a composite of actual stitch outs using medium size designs and is 44 inches by 30 inches - a great center for a quilt!

  • I think Celtic designs appeal to many of us because of their symmetry and basic simplicity of design. Yet, even with this simplicity, with different colors they can become very exciting, as Fred has shown here.

  • I call these designs *Magical* because they had their beginnings in the Magical Ladies design set. I had drawn a table with a crystal ball for that set and really liked the look of the table legs and crystal ball. One night while watching River Dance on the DVD I played around with them and the matching bowl came to be during that show. I think the crystal ball now has more the look of the sun and moon and it might have just a bit of Celtic influence from watching the great Celtic dancers. After the bowl, I thought a set of borders and medallions was a perfect companion. I have stitched two of the designs  on a pair of finger tip towels. They would also make great designs for a shirt using either the frame with your initial or the square design for a pocket, and the buttonhole (the last design) and narrow borders for the front and sleeves. They are also very appropriate for table linens and curtain borders.

The sections of the bowl stitch quite firm and it stands up very well after rinsing. This bowl coordinates with the Magical Designs set.

  • I love Celtic designs and I thought this one really is appropriate for a bowl. It is totally freestanding and even though it may look fragile, it holds up very well! It is not that dense a design, just uses intertwining stitches to hold the serpent together.

It comes in two sizes and two versions: a 5 sided version and one with six sides. The 5 sided version will be more straight sided then the 6 sided I have illustrated below. The doily comes in one version with 6 sides. All versions come in both 4x4 and 5x7 sizes. I used a combination of metallic and rayon thread to give the bowl it's sparkle in the sample, but I also stitched out sections in all rayon and they work great too.

    5x7 Bowl - 9" Diamter --Doily - 11" Diameter

    4x4 Bowl - 7.2" Diamter --Doily - 8.8" Diameter
