  • I have always loved all forms of Russian Embroidery.  Their folk art embroideries are bright with clear colors and patterns. Red, yellow and black are among the favorite colors.  Use these designs for a quilt or make great kitchen accessories - aprons, hot mats, towels, placemats or table covers!

  • Instructions included to make these as Quilt in the hoop (QIH) or regular stitched designs

Azulejos Tiles are everywhere in Portugal. You can see them on churches and monasteries, to palaces, ordinary houses, park seats, fountains, shops, and train stations.  Dating from the 13th century they were traditionally done in shades of blue After a while yellow and sometimes green were also added.  If you want to do these more traditionally, you could choose a lighter blue for the yellow.  The three shades of blue would make a beautiful quilt!

You will have lots of options with this set!  You can stitch them as true Quilt in the hoop so you just have to stitch them together when they are done or as regular blocks you seam together.  As you can see from the screenshots starting at image 11, most of them can make more than one design of a large block! This will give you a lot of options.

  •  From a time not too long ago and very often romantized but in reality a tough and "wild" period in US history- nonetheless any lover of the old west would appreciate these designs on garments, lap robes, done as pictures or on a jacket or shirt.

  • Matryoshka Dolls, also known as nesting dolls, were first made in Russia in 1890.  They were hand painted, sometimes with very intricate designs and various sizes fit inside each other.  Traditionally the outer one is a woman, but those inside can be either gender, usually ending with a baby. These designs can be used with Embroidery Glitter.

  • Osiris is the Egyptian God of the after life. Since the ancient Egyptians thought of the dead as *the living ones*, Osiris has also been called the King of the Living. Because of the hope he bestowed in life after death, he is also associated with the cycles of nature and the flooding of the Nile.

  • These designs are based on the Granite carvings in the The Old Mutual Building in South Africa. They represent nine ethnic African groups (not just South African) labelled thus: "Xosa", "Pedi", "Maasai", "Matabele", "Basuto", "Barotse", "Kikuyu", "Zulu", and "Bushman".  I can see a fantastic quilt made with all of these designs.

  • These Etchings are in The Old Mutual Building (now turned residential) in Cape Town, South Africa. Attributed to Ivan Mitford-Barberton, they depict indigenous animals and plants. As you can see they adorn the elevator doors which are edged with black marble. They would make an elegant wall hanging edged in black and white fabrics. Or use them for a tote or handbag!

  • The tan background on these designs is your fabric showing through - we used a batik for an *ancient* look. We carried that theme through by making borders of Stonehenge fabrics. In addition to a wall hanging, you can use the center circle designs for a pillow or to make a dramatic handbag. You receive full instructions to do the designs as Quilt in the Hoop and a PDF that shows you the sequence of how to put the designs together.

    Finished sizes (without borders): , Medium Designs 17.25” x 12.0”, Large Designs 20.7” x14.4”, Jumbo Designs 27.5” x 19.2 "

  • I think Celtic designs appeal to many of us because of their symmetry and basic simplicity of design. Yet, even with this simplicity, with different colors they can become very exciting, as Fred has shown here.
