These designs come with three basting stitches at the beginning and 2 before the final satin stitch border.  These are used to create QIH (Quilt in the hoop) designs that use the minimal amount of your good fabric, or to add Angelina film or similar material, to add batting and to add a backing fabric.  You can also choose to skip all of them and just stitch the middle design of the fancy stitch.  Then you would sew them into a project as you would any fabric.  Stitch these to match colors in the fabric you use to put with them to make placemats, lap quilts or a full size quilt.  Add your own designs in the middle of the these designs - the Instructions show how.
