BFC0831 Window - Vintage Sewing Machine
A great addition to our sewing rooms or a gift for a stitching friend!
The history of the sewing machine is fascinating and fraught with the collision of craftsmanship and mechanization - even violence. In 1846, Howe was the first to patent the process of a machine using two threads and a needle with an eye. His machine was limited though and he became disillusioned and broke. In 1850 Isaac Singer developed a true sewing machine and along with other manufacturers, the sewing machine industry began. Howe noticed that all these machines used his patented method. He sued and won $25 for every sewing machine sold. He became rich without ever having sold a machine.
The small size picture (without sashing) is 7.8 x 11.6 inches, the medium 9.8 x 14.6 and the large 11.6 x 17. 4.
