BFC1725 A Touch of Steampunk Fabric Bowl
I named this a Touch of Steampunk because it has other elements like music and foliage. Â By using different fabrics and colors it will go well in any decor.Â
The designs are done with bobbins matching your top thread so you have double sided bowl sides. Â Very quick stitching even with the changing of bobbins. Â There is also a method described that has a plain fabric side eliminating the need for the colored bobbins. Â I use Silk Dupioni striped fabric that had large red and green strips. Â I used one color stripe for each side of the design. Â Full instructions included. Â You can also use this to make just a plan fabric bowl with a pretty fabric - no design in the middle, or use the designs for other projects by eliminating the borders. Â Lots of options!Â

I really love these designs and I want to make the bowl, but I realized that part of the attraction to the bowl is the fabric you put under the designs. I looked for something similar, but have been unable to find it. So that would mean using a different fabric and thus different thread colors. Any suggestions?
Apr 10, 2018, 09:10 AMHI Roberta, I searched for Plaid Silk Dupioni and found lots - especially on Etsy! I've sent you the links because i can't post live links here.
Thanks!

What did you use to make the sides of the bowl stiff?
Apr 3, 2018, 06:59 AMHi Roberta - nothing unusual! I used two layers of tear away stabilizer, two layers of silk fabric (top and back of design and one layer of thin batting. They really stand up great! I think the shape of the sides helps too - more satin stitching with the ups and downs on the top. I jsut gave it a light pressing after stitching together.
Thanks - Suz
